AJ Apartments
Infrastructure as identity.
At AJ Apartments in Sacramento’s Railyards district, the visual environment draws directly from the site’s industrial past- translating a history of rail movement into a cohesive, built experience.
Environmental graphics were developed as an extension of the architecture, using a continuous line motif inspired by rail systems to guide movement through corridors, parking areas, and shared spaces. Rather than acting as applied branding, these elements function as both wayfinding and identity- subtle, repeatable, and integrated at every scale.
A custom-designed locomotive installation anchors the project, creating a focal moment that connects the environment back to its origins. Elsewhere, layered graphics and material-driven compositions bring energy into amenity spaces, including the fitness center, while maintaining a consistent visual language throughout.
Together, the interventions balance clarity and character- embedding the story of the Railyards into the everyday experience of the space.
